Manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Alvarez sustained the injury Saturday during live batting practice and that he’d have surgery Monday.

New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez will miss the next six to eight weeks after suffering a broken hamate bone in his left hand, manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Sunday. Alvarez will undergo surgery on Monday.

With many fantasy drafters chasing last year's stats in the mid-range of the catcher rankings, the wise guys will be stealing Francisco Alvarez at a much more favorable price point.
