Food bank demand soars amid government shutdown
Food banks are seeing a massive surge in demand due to the government shutdown, causing distribution sites to run out of supplies early.
Rep. Joe Neguse, House assistant minority leader, visited the Food Bank for Larimer County as it braces for influx of those in need.
Laura Brooks with God’s Pantry Food Bank estimates that 250,000 people in central and eastern Kentucky may need to supplement their SNAP benefits with food provided by local food banks and pantries.
To help meet the community’s needs, the Weld Food Bank has added food distribution hours, scheduled additional mobile food pantry stops and purchased nearly $250,000 of additional food.
