The Democrats dominated the first major election day since Donald Trump became president with a series of victories

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo took a last-minute shot at Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, calling him an "extreme far socialist." Cuomo trails Mamdani by nearly 15% in the RCP Average of polls going into election day.

Democrats were riding high after their election victories, while Republicans were brushing aside off-year races as aberrations that aren't predictive of the 2026 midterms.

Republicans said Tuesday’s Democratic victories were expected. But the results revealed deeper problems for the GOP.

The Democratic Party is perceived as being overly-focused on “Protecting the rights of undocumented immigrants” and “Protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans,” the survey found.

Turnout approached nearly half the number of votes cast in last year’s presidential election — an unprecedented campus showing for an off-cycle election year.
