Payal Kapadia's film 'All We Imagine As Light' was nominated for Best Director and Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes but did not win in either category. Despite this, Kapadia expressed pride for the recognition her small-budget film received.

Filmmaker Payal Kapadia has reacted to her film All We Imagine As Light not bagging any award at the 82nd Golden Globes, after securing two nominations earlier.

All We Imagine As Light may have missed out on a Golden Globe, but in 2024, the film made history by becoming the first Indian film to win the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.

All We Imagine As Light, directed by Payal Kapadia will be in the contention for two awards at the Golden Globe Awards. Kapadia is nominated in the Best Director category against Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez; Sean Baker for Anora; Edward Berger for Conclave; Brady Corbet for The Brutalist; and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance.

Though Payal didn’t win an award at the Golden Globes, she made history as the first Indian director ever to be nominated for Best Director.

Award season for the best of the films and TV shows released in 2024 kicked off with Golden Globe Awards on January 5, 2025. This year, the Golden Globe Awards held special importance for Indians as Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Lightwas nominated in two main categories: Best Director – Motion Picture and Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language.

On Monday, following the Golden Globes ceremony, Payal Kapadia took to Instagram to react to missing out on winning any award.
