Worth the drive from Salta. We rented a car and drove there and back in one day. The scene is just like Page Arizona without the Grand Canyon. We enjoyed all the rock formations and as long as you d… Full review by Try2TravelSustainabl

Every stop in Cafayate is beautiful but this is one of the very best. It’s like being in another world. It’s very busy but that’s to be expected - you won’t be disappointed. Full review by EctoplasmFantasia

We are looking to spend somewhere between 4 - 6 days in the Salta region. If we have 6 days we would be able to go to Salta, Cafayate and up to Jujuy and Humahuaca. But if we have only 4 - I think it would be too much to cram in. If having to choose - which area would you choose? Would you head north or south? or are both a 'must do'? thank you.

Hi Margaret, That region is very beautiful. The south has the Quebrada de las conchas and Cafayate, where you can find lovely and romantic hotels as well as great wine and dining. Also you can drive to Quilmes for a little bit of archaeology. The north is beautiful too, with the Mountain of the 7 colors, rivers, cascades and mountains. In my case, I would choose south! but it depends on your travel style... wish you luck and a great trip

IMO, you don't really need a tour company, just a sense of adventure. How long are you staying? Rent a car for the freedom to go where you want. Although they are more expensive than the States. Try Cactus Rentals - they have small cars and are the most reasonable in cost . There are interesting places to visit north, west and south of Salta. Much better experiences than the tourist offerings in Salta city. If you like wine country, make your way south to Cafayate.
